About The Open Tarot

Here at The Open Tarot, we want to provide you with free, easy readings and resources for Tarot.

We’ve been Tarot practitioners for a long time. Every morning, we do a reading to provide insight and preparation for the day ahead. We find this simple morning ritual a way to ground the day and ourselves.

We’ve done readings with physical and virtual cards, and one thing is clear: the medium doesn’t determine the quality of the reading. Many of our most insightful readings have come from an online digital interface.

The problem, however, was that we never quite found an online reading mechanism that we liked. They were often too heavy with graphics, required signup, required payment, or hadn’t been updated in twenty years.

The solution was simple: build our own, and share it with others.

We are still building and adding to the site, but the goal is always to keep it simple and direct.

Because Tarot itself will always be mysterious, but getting a reading shouldn’t be.

The cards

We are currently using the Rider-Waite-Smith Tarot as the foundation for our readings.

We’ve taken care to make the interpretations simple and bare-bones, because the most important interpretation is yours.

That is: how the meaning of the card is seen and felt by you, your body, and your situation. Sometimes you get that from the picture on the Tarot card itself. Sometimes a keyword will ignite an understanding in you. Always go with that.

Please note that we consider reversals to be another layer of meaning upon the card, rather than the opposite of the upright meaning. Reversals can be tricky, though. You absolutely don’t need to use them to get a full and meaningful reading.

A note about Tarot

Tarot can be useful for reflection and perspective, but it isn’t a substitute for professional medical, legal, financial, or other professional advice.

Use your own judgment—and remember that you are the one making your decisions.

Welcome

The Open Tarot is for everyone. You are welcome, whether you’re an avid practitioner or just a curious mind.

In the meantime, pull a card and see where it takes you.
