The Open Tarot is a free tarot reading and reference website. You can use the site without creating an account, and we try to collect as little information as reasonably necessary to operate the site.
This Privacy Policy explains what information may be collected when you visit The Open Tarot, how it is used, and what choices you have.
Information you provide
You can use The Open Tarot without creating an account.
When you enter a question for a tarot reading, your question is used to generate and display your reading. The Open Tarot does not intentionally save reading questions in a user account or maintain a database of users’ questions.
Questions may appear as part of the URL of a reading. As a result, a question may be present in your browser history and may also appear in standard technical logs or be processed by third-party services that receive or process the page URL.
If The Open Tarot adds features that allow you to save, email, or otherwise share readings, this Privacy Policy will be updated to explain how those features handle information.
Information collected automatically
When you visit The Open Tarot, certain technical information may be collected automatically. This may include information such as:
- your IP address;
- browser and device information;
- operating system;
- pages you visit;
- referring website;
- approximate geographic location; and
- information about how you interact with the site.
Some of this information is collected by services we use to operate and understand the website, including Google Analytics and our hosting provider.
We use this information to operate, maintain, secure, understand, and improve The Open Tarot.
Google Analytics
The Open Tarot uses Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site.
Google Analytics may collect information such as the number of users, session statistics, approximate geographic location, and browser and device information. Google Analytics may also use a first-party cookie to distinguish users and sessions.
We use Google Analytics to understand things such as which pages are visited, how people find the site, and which parts of The Open Tarot are useful. We do not use Google Analytics to intentionally identify individual visitors.
Google’s handling of information collected through Analytics is governed by Google’s own policies.
Cookies
The Open Tarot and the services used to operate the site may use cookies or similar technologies.
Some cookies may be necessary for the website to function. Other cookies may be used for analytics, advertising, security, measurement, or other site functions.
You can control cookies through your browser settings. Where required by applicable law, we will also ask for consent before using cookies or similar technologies that require consent.
Advertising
The Open Tarot may display advertising through Google AdSense.
Google and other advertising technology providers may use cookies or similar technologies to serve, measure, and personalize advertisements. Google requires publishers using AdSense to disclose that third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits to this or other websites.
Depending on your location and your choices, advertisements may be personalized based on information associated with your browsing activity.
You can control Google’s personalized advertising through Google Ads Settings. Google also provides information about how advertising personalization works and how users can control it.
Other advertising technology providers may also participate in serving advertisements on The Open Tarot. The providers used on the site may change over time.
Advertising and consent
Visitors in some locations, including the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, may be shown a consent message before certain advertising or analytics technologies are used.
Google currently requires publishers using its advertising products to use an appropriate consent management solution for personalized advertising in those regions.
The choices available to you may therefore vary depending on where you are visiting from.
Third-party services
The Open Tarot uses third-party services to help operate the website. These may include:
- Hostinger, for website hosting and related infrastructure;
- Google Analytics, for website analytics;
- Google AdSense, for advertising; and
- other services that may be added in the future to operate, secure, or improve the site.
These services may process technical information about visitors as necessary to provide their services.
Third-party services have their own privacy policies and terms. Their handling of information is governed by their own policies as well as applicable law.
Reading URLs and questions
The Open Tarot is designed so that a completed reading can be revisited using its reading URL.
Because the question entered for a reading may be included in that URL, anyone with access to the URL may be able to see the question.
For this reason, we recommend that you avoid entering highly sensitive personal information into a tarot question if you would not want that information to appear in a URL.
The Open Tarot does not intentionally add reading questions to a user database.
Saved readings
The Open Tarot may eventually offer ways to save readings for your own use.
If a save-reading feature is introduced, we will explain how it works and what information is stored before or when the feature is made available.
Print, copy, and email features
The Open Tarot may offer features that allow you to print, copy, or email a reading.
These features may cause the information contained in a reading—including the question you entered—to be handled by your browser, email provider, operating system, or other services you choose to use.
The Open Tarot does not control how those services handle information after you choose to use them.
Embedded content
Some pages may contain content from other websites, such as images, videos, or other embedded material.
Embedded content from other websites may behave as though you had visited the other website directly. Those websites may collect information, use cookies, or track your interaction with the embedded content according to their own privacy policies.
Accounts and comments
The Open Tarot does not currently require user accounts and does not currently offer public comments.
If these features are added in the future, this Privacy Policy will be updated to explain what information they collect and how that information is used.
How long information is retained
The Open Tarot does not maintain a database of users’ tarot questions or reading history as part of the normal reading experience.
Information collected by third-party services such as our hosting provider, Google Analytics, and advertising providers may be retained according to their respective policies and settings.
Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have legal rights concerning personal information collected about you. These may include rights to request access to, correction of, or deletion of certain personal information.
You may also have rights concerning cookies, analytics, and personalized advertising.
Because The Open Tarot does not currently maintain user accounts or a database of reading questions, there may be little or no personal information that The Open Tarot can directly associate with a particular visitor.
You can also manage certain privacy and advertising choices through your browser, Google’s advertising controls, and any consent tools presented on the site.
Children’s privacy
The Open Tarot is intended for a general audience.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through user accounts or registration.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when the website, the services we use, or applicable privacy requirements change.
When we make changes, the updated policy will be posted on this page with a new “Last updated” date.
